Weighing during illness or stress

When to pause, how to read the numbers when you feel unwell, and when a change needs a doctor.

When you are unwell, the scale is the least important thing in your day.

Illness changes weight quickly

A stomach bug, fever or not eating for a few days can lower your weight fast. Most of that is water and food in transit, and it often returns as you recover. Some medicines can also change weight or fluid.

Stress does too

Busy, stressful weeks change sleep, meals and movement. Your readings may go up or down. Neither tells you much about long-term progress.

What to do

  • Pause weighing if you like. Turn on Holiday mode so reminders stop.
  • Rest, drink fluids and follow medical advice.
  • When you are better, add a new start marker if things changed, such as new medicine.

When weight change needs a doctor

Talk to a doctor if you are losing weight without trying, especially over several weeks, or if you also have other symptoms like tiredness, thirst, pain or changes in appetite. In Singapore, call 995 in an emergency.

How Evenly helps

If your trend falls faster than your plan for a few weeks, Evenly shows a gentle check-in. You can tell us you have been ill, talk it through with the coach, or hide numbers for a while.
